Evie’s Ear Part 5: Days 4 and 5
Here’s the secret: this journey was about the girl, not the ear.
Me: Evie, were you beautiful with out an ear?
Evie: well, yes, duh
Me: Why did you want to get an ear?
Evie: it’s just the part I didn’t have. I don’t know. You already have two ears, so you won’t understand
Yesterday we didn’t have to see the anaplastologist as it was her lab day. The day she spent making a silicone ear for Evie. Today we picked it up! A little color tweaking had to be done and a little training on handling, washing, storing and putting the ear on happened too. But then we walked out the door with a brand new ear. I knew it was going to be great but I have to say I am totally blown away by how flawless it is. There’s no way anyone will be able to tell its not hers Even sitting at lunch with her…it moves when she talks and eats just like her other one. I am so impressed at the skills of these people! What amazing scientific progress has happened in this arena!
I am humbled by all the love that has been sent our way. Evie and I both feel really blessed that you came on this journey with us. Much love to you all.
Showing Evie the mold that her ear came out of . . . those are quilting pins that made her “piercings” and electrical boxes to hold the plaster.
Putting her earrings in
trying on the final silicone version
some color tweaking had to be done to make some shadows
Then back in the oven. Evie was a little appalled that it’s the same kind of oven you’d cook pizza in…
Final try on . . . she’s said from day one she couldn’t wait to tuck her hair behind her new ear . . . so she gave it a go.
and finally, because Evie is silly. . . she wanted me to make this photo
